Child Sponsorship

Help the local community access safe clean water, education, health care and the means to generate their own income.
Sponsor a child and you'll be helping them, their family and their whole community. You will see how you are helping through annual updates and our newsletter. By becoming a sponsor you will make all the difference to the life of a child in Shonda.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How much does sponsorship cost?
  2. It costs £80 a year to sponsor a child - that's less than 25p a day.

  3. How does sponsorship work?
  4. If you sponsor a child your money will help to pay for school fees, uniforms, booksand exam fees and will offer the child a chance to go to school when their parents cannot afford it.

  5. How long will sponsorship last?
  6. Sponsorship can last for as long as the child is attending St Johns school or as long as you wish to remain a sponsor. If your child goes on to secondary school you may choose to continue to fund that child independently or start sponsoring another child at St Johns school who needs it.

  7. What happens if I cannot continue as a sponsor
  8. You can stop sponsorship of a child at any time. If that child still needs support we will find another sponsor.

  9. Can I decide on the gender and age of the child I sponsor?
  10. Can I send letters and gifts to the child I sponsor?
  11. You can send messages to the child you are sponsoring but please do not send them gifts as in a poor community like Shonda it would be unfair to single out a child with a gift.
Every visit that Angela and Mick make they take out one small gift (such as a pen, pencil or a small toy) for every child at the school and a small part of the money you send to your sponsored child will go towards funding that for the benefit of the whole school community.
